Convo's over - back to work ...
It's been a long long time since I've blogged. I'm only now recovering from the sudden dive into the working world. Feel tired and drained after a full day at work.
1) Convo 2007
My convocation was held last 12th of August, around 3 weeks ago. It was a great morning ... to actually put on the robe, hat, and coat ... just wow. And not because the clothes looked great or what laa - because of what donning them signified.
My parents came with me to the hall itself, and we entered before 9am. Everything went smoothly, with around 500 - 600 graduates taking their scrolls during my morning session. They displayed our particulars every time a person went up to take their scroll. How? Via a smartcard system - we'll pass it to them, and the card reader will scan the card and display the correct info.
Going up the stage ... shaking the pro-chancellor's hand ... receiving the scroll ... walking down the stage ... felt like a surreal dream. All that went through my mind: "IT IS FINISHED! DONE! FAIT ACCOMPLI!!". 3 years of sweat, tears, effort and striving was now drawn to an official closure. Thank God that I am still in one piece after those 3 years of turmoil.
It finished around 11am (that's pretty fast!) - quickly snapped a few photo's in front of the stage. Then went out to the garden where my juniors were gathered and had a camera-posing fiesta! So grateful to my buddies who were so kind as to give a few gifts ... Then my brother arrived with a few church friends, together with my uncle and family. Nice of them to take the trouble to come straight after church ended!
Altogether, it was a good day ... only thing I wasn't happy with - the photo's the photographer took!! My eyes were CLOSED when they took the photo of me receiving the scroll!! ARGHHHHH!! A once-in-a-lifetime photo and it's messed up!! Ah well ...

2) 12th week at work ...
It's now my 12th week at Great Eastern as an underwriting officer. Been one heck of a ride - going through all the training sessions, being posted at the call center answering enquiries from agents, and organising all sorts of miscelleneous stuff. Even sang in an impromptu choir the manager set up. One of the reasons I haven't been blogging - too tired!
Generally, I'd say the working environment is ok, and the people there are nice.
My training will be over soon - we will begin practical underwriting around next week; meaning that we'll actually be given real cases to process, and all our decisions will be checked through by a senior underwriter. War games is about to be replaced with real battlefield placement. Can only hope and pray that I wouldn't mess up ...
